Fall Bite

Post by Aroc11 » Thu Sep 10, 2015 11:32 am

Been pretty quiet on here this summer, but I know the Bay / Lake has been pretty good to most. Maybe that's why things have been quiet :D lol.

The early fall transition is right on our door step and most species should be putting the feed bag on soon. Not sure how this algae bloom will affect things especially when the bay turns over (which could happen any day now with the shorter cooler days coming up).

Any thoughts on how this might affect things this year? It has been a less than typical season thusfar.

according to these guys it doesn't look like the bay in particular is in any immediate danger...it is forecast to come pretty close although in lower concentrations

hope this helps.

I'm hoping to get my 5 year old out fishing a few more times before it gets too cold. 2 weekends ago we only caught gobies from the beginning of the pier. Maybe next time we'll try behind the firehall? I still like the hope of catching something a little bigger than perch on the lakeside though.

Pretty tough out there this weekend. The weather was partially to blame. But I think everything is in transition again. With a little nice weather, October should be a good month (Im hoping)...

I'm going to try maybe tomorrow or Thursday mid morning. I'll be shore fishing in erieau. Probably from the government docks but I'm open to suggestions.

Not too many options from shore at the moment as most the eaters are still out deep. Heard of guys getting slabs off the skinny pier late at night though but can't confirm.

Thanks...good to know. I'll probably just go and throw a spoon or a spinner for few hours in that case.

Well. I had car issues that took up my whole morning and now I have a brutal cold along with 2 of 3 kids also sick. I'm still hoping to get out next week sometime though.

Now's the time! The bite was on over the weekend by the reports I got. I'm in the same boat as you though lol...Or rather lack there of. Winterized mine on Saturday and kids were sick so no shore fishing for us either :(

Got out yesterday. Beautiful day but threw spinners and spoons into the channel off the gravel docks with no luck. Right before u left I threw a few worms I had leftover on a jig head and got stripped a few times before getting snagged and calling it a day. I guess it's not cold enough yet? Seems really slow right now. Going to give the detroit river a shot this week sometime so hopefully that's a bit (or alot) better.

Ya the bay has been in a funk for a couple weeks now. When that Algae came in and we got that sustained wind everything turned over and turned bogus. I am not even sure we will get another good day out there until ice sets in and clears up the water again. :( If you can get in a boat and find clear water, I keep hearing reports of perch being caught. But it's hit and miss and weather dependent. And we haven't had the weather for the most part! lol

And then as I read this I see on Facebook that my niece caught 11 pretty good size panfish...mostly bluegills off the shrewsbury pier this morning.

That can be a good spot for perch in Oct as long as water is relatively clear and it's a tad warmer.

I heard from a couple guys who were jigging for bass at the mouth of the bay (about a week ago) and were surprised with 2 walleye!! Historically, catching walleye this close to the bay is unusual. However, this year there have been close to 10 caught in that general area since spring!
