Thursday Morning Crappie Report

Post by Aroc11 » Sat Apr 28, 2018 12:29 pm

Posting a tad late but managed 11 Crappie Thursday morning mostly on jigs with few on tear drops / minnows. Good average size to them but no giants yet. Not great but not bad considering the cold dirty water. Def still a pre spawn bite but they are starting to group up so its a start. Next couple weeks should be good. 😊

Absolutely! We had a fish fry for my son's (on the left) 5th birthday on Friday. He was pretty jacked that he got to have his favorite fish for dinner on his birthday :)

Got into a nice bunch of crappie last night with my boys, water temp is raising fast so the run this spring will be short

This cold / rain today and tomorrow will hopefully delay things a few more days. But when it warms again you're right it won't be long at all. The carp have already started to move in! :(

I sure hope they decide to still run the tournament tomorrow despite the rain. If they wait till next weekend, the run will likely already be over. And between you and I, the rainiest, most miserable coldest days this year have been absolutely dynamite for the bite! The warm calm days are when I've struggled the most. Put on your rain coat, it's worth it! I'll be fishing tourney or no tourney! lol

Alas it was moved - I found a nice one out in the middle of the bay yesterday, had a bass too, and lost a nice pike

:(

Got the outboard running right again so was testing her out, might have to come out this Sat.

There are a few fish left in the cuts but most of them are on their way or already out of them. It's going to be a tough tournament I think unless you have a boat. The carp are in thick and it's either scared them into lockjaw or they've mostly left. Saw someone catch a slab in the bay at the end of Brock Street yesterday, so they are on the move would be my guess.

This weekends tourney will be a tough go for sure. As Aroc mentioned the only hope is that this past cold front kept the water temp within range but a week ago the spot we fished had a surface temp of 67 deg F so I am thinking it is all but over.

Got a very reliable tip that there is a good bite for post spawn females in the bay. Need a boat to get to them, but there's some pretty good limits that can be had right now. The key is finding slightly cleaner water than the rest of the bay ;)

90% Chance of 5-10 mm of rain is the current forecast for Saturday :?

Looks like there may not be a Tournament this year if that doesn't change. Can't see them rescheduling it again. By all rights, for most it's almost already too late... They could always add perch into the mix, that bite is hot right now!

My daughter and I found a few in the middle of the bay last night but we worked to get them. On the other had the big gills are in on the flats now for their spawn.

I can attest to the cleaner water theory and catching them in the bay - found a few out there Sunday.
