Was sitting on the couch watching tv around 8.30 I get a call from my mom saying there is a tom behind her house strutting in the field so I grab my gear and out the door. When I get there I see the tom strutting along the ditch about 300 yards away so I know this is going to be a hard stalk with minimal cover. I had to climb into the bottom of the ditch and work my way towards him. when I get to within 80 yards I watch him disappear behind a brush pile so I make my move. When I get there I notice he is gone . So I work my way along the ditch bank and spot him 100 yards away walking the bank of our duck pond so off I go again. after watching him strut and gobble ontop the bank of the pond he got behind some cover of cattails so I use the bank as my cover and worked my way towards him. after almost an hour of stalking this bird I got within 55 yards and dropped him in his tracks with the Winchester longbeard xr. Love them shell. Tom was 24lbs with 8 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs.
Let's talk Hunting in and around Erieau.
